Taking A Sheep Dog To Dinner

Happy New Year to whomever! Nat and I, as usual, spent an extremely quiet night at home, by the telly, watching the rest of the world celebrate. My eyes could only make it to 10:30 (how sad is that??) so I kissed dear hubby goodnight and trotted off to bed. Come sunrise I had to remind myself that it was, in fact, now 2015. Nat and I would both become a year older (really don’t like being reminded) and we would continue on in the new year as if nothing had changed. In fact, nothing really has changed in our lives of late – so que sera sera!!

New Years Day saw Nat and I doing our usual – him crosswords; me iPad games. We both agreed to do nothing despite the fact there were things to be done. Nat wants to finally get the downstairs bathroom finished (the trim needs to be done and I’ve got some camcorder film to convert). We took a trip up to Ikea on the 29th and found a few items needed for the bathroom – small bench, mirror, towel and tissue holders, hand towels, etc. I also put together some pieces of African Art for framing because of its vibrant colours which would make that little room “pop”. Nat thought the framed artwork looked pretty good and it was a shame to put them in a room no one will see but us. Oh well! Knowing me they may not stay down there very long as I have a tendency to change things around a little!!!

After a quiet day yesterday, this morning found me waking up, grabbing Nat’s birthday gift and his cards and presenting them while he’s nursing his sore hip in his recliner (the sciatica is still hanging around). He was really taken aback as he was not expecting a gift, but I had decided to give him a rice cooker which he’s been humming and hawing about for weeks – couldn’t make up his mind whether he really needed one or not. As I had been out on errands and found a good one on sale I decided to make up his mind for him. This way I’m not out a lot of money and he has one to at least try and see if he likes it or not.

Another one of Nat’s gifts was dinner at a new restaurant (new to us, at least) – Strada West – in Niagara Falls on Lundy’s Lane. We received a certificate from Thamazine at Christmas as a thank-you gift for wrapping her parcels. This was the perfect time to go. A treat for both of us and an evening out which we rarely do these days. The ambiance was nice, the food was really good Italian (homemade gnocchi, ravioli, spaghetti, etc. dinners) with a bit of American mixed in (fish dinners, sandwiches, burgers and pizzas). The food was excellent but the portions were just a tad too much for Nat and myself, so you definitely received your money’s worth and we enjoyed our meal with a nice glass of wine and good conversation.

As we were waiting for our Caesar Salads to arrive, I noticed a young man sitting at the table over Nat’s right shoulder. He was with a group of other adults, but I noticed he kept tilting his head back practically between his shoulder blades in oder to talk to the man across from him. He couldn’t see despite the glasses that framed his eyes. His hair was bright red, a tad frizzy and growing down his neck, around and below his ears and even down to the tip of his nose!! I whispered to Nat to take a peak over his right shoulder to which he then straightened his head, looking at me, and remarked “You’ve got to be kidding!!!!“. “Is it a male or female?”, he asked. “He’s a he”, I said, “because of the way he’s dressed, I think”. The whole table gave their order to the waitress after which this young lad promptly took out a comb from his back pocket and began to comb the entire top of his locks down towards his nose, as if there wasn’t enough there already!!!! I couldn’t believe my eyes and again whispered to Nat what he had done. Nat couldn’t help but turn around once more and to which he quipped – “He looks like a Sheep Dog, plus he did it at the table!!!”. I snickered as Nat had hit it right on the head (pardon the pun). I couldn’t help but think what this lad reminded me of – a Sheep Dog. Only fools and horses could know what trend this young man was following, as it certainly wasn’t anything Nat and I were aware of or had seen. Throughout the time we were dining, and whenever this lad conversed with any of his dining companions, he continued to tilt his head all the way back in order to see who he was talking to. Why, I ask?? Is this hair style that cool and worth the effort of looking through a mop of red bangs that (surely to God) must be tickling his nose!!!! I will admit to staring a bit and he did manage to consume his entire burger without moving one strand. I continue to be amazed at society and their foibles!!!!
